Arusha National Park covers an area of 137 sq km/53 sq mi, and is located near the town of Arusha between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Despite its size, the park offers a spectacular landscape and a diverse wildlife population. Only a few parks offer the possibility of a walking safari where you have a unique opportunity to observe the wild animals at close quarters. The park has a wealth of wildlife including Colobus Monkeys, velvet monkeys, bushbucks, buffalos, red forest duikers, hippos, elephants, and giraffes. Leopard and lions populations are present, but rarely seen. Birdlife, especially waterfowl, is abundant and interesting.

This cycling tour will lead you out of the city heading south into the enormous and beautiful sugar cane fields. You will see entire villages constructed for plantation workers by TPC, The Tanzanian Plantation Company. From lush sugarcane you will begin to move deep into the rural and agrarian life of the local people. Keep a lookout for outstanding views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mawenzi in the distance as you ride alongside fields of corn, wheat, turnips, onions, and bananas. Quaint and tiny villages will appear along the route, as well as herds of cows, goat, and sheep. Materuni is located under the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel/airport early in the morning then head to Materuni village. Enjoy a morning hike in the village surrounded by beautiful tropical rainforests giving you a scenic view of the city as you approach the waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the waterfall pool, if the weather allows. You will also get to explore the cultural heritage of the Chagga tribe through their local banana beer and coffee roasted traditionally, whereas you can join in the coffee-making process to its final. Make sure you have an early (and good!) breakfast because we leave market town Moshi at 8:00 am sharp for the hour’s drive to Arusha National Park. Once you arrive, you’ll stretch your legs on an out-of-this-world walking safari, accompanied by a ranger who will guide you through rainforest up to a sparkling waterfall where you’ll be able to spot black and white colobus monkeys going about their day.
