The name has almost mystical ring to it, conjuring images of a giant wildlife-filled volcanic caldera, where the big five and many other animals roam. But there`s even more – the Ngorongoro Conservation Area also encompasses mountains, lakes, forests, and wide open African plains! With the world famous crater at its hart, the Ngorongoro conservation area covers an area of 8300sq km. this African wildlife area was previously part of the Serengeti National park, but due to the grazing needs of the animals of the local Masai, the area was reclassified as an African wildlife conservation area in Tanzania. The Ngorongoro conservation area as a whole has much to offer but the jewel in its crown is, without a doubt, the eponymous crater – an area of 265 sq km, which is 610 meters deep and 19 km across. The rim of the crater is an astounding 2286 meters above sea level. The floor contains a small soda lake,called Lake Magadi and it is estimated that 3000 animals are living in the crater.

Machame is also the regarded by many guides as the most enjoyable, though it is longer and, according to most, more arduous. Despite this, the success rate on the Machame Route is higher than on the Marangu Route, possibly because the Machame is a day longer at six days and five nights (assuming you take the Barafu Route to the summit) which gives trekkers more time to acclimatize. An extra acclimatization day can – and usually is -taken in the Karanga Valley. The Machame Route also gives you the option of taking the Western Breach / Arrow Glacier Route to the summit.

The Northern Circuit Is The Newest And Longest Route On Mount Kilimanjaro. It Begins In The West At The Londorossi Gate And Follows The Same Path As The Lemosho Route For The First Two Days. After Crossing The Shira Plateau The Path Veers North Near Lava Tower, Following The Longer Northern Circuit Instead Of The More Popular Southern Circuit Via Barranco Valley The Route Circles Around The Quieter Northern Slopes To The East Side Of The Mountain.

The Machame Route is known as the “Whiskey Route” in comparison to Marangu’s “Coca Cola Route”. This is because Machame is a more difficult route, and does not have sleeping huts for accommodation. Machame is the second most popular route on the mountain.

The day hike is a challenge that allows a client to see what kilimanjaro is all about whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery around. This hike is managable especially for people who either don't have enough time or the financial capacity to do the full hike. The trip has beautiful wildlife such as the Monkeys colobus and blue velvet, there is beautiful bird sightings and most importantly the vegetation such as the Eucalyptus trees are not something to be missed. The trip will begin on a pick up at your hotel and drive for about an hour to the Marangu gate which is where we will begin the hike. We will hike to Mandara hut which is about 2700m and on the way we will have the opportunity to see the Maundi crater which you will be able to see the soroundings including Northen Tanzania and Kenya. After having a well packed lunch we will hike back to the park gate where we will begin our drive back to Moshi town.
