This is an unforgettable day tour from Inverness to Loch Ness, taking in some of the most scenic, historic and culturally significant sights available anywhere in Scotland. Our local guide will meet you at your chosen pick up address where your tour will start and take you on your own Highland adventure. We will make our way to Urquhart Castle travelling along the shores of Loch Ness. We will then travel along the Loch side towards Inverness and make our way to Culloden Battlefield, before moving onto the sacred site of Clava Cairns, home of the famous Outlander series . We then travel a short distance to Cawdor Castle and Gardens , before returning to Inverness where we will see Inverness Cathedral and all the local sites that the city offers.

We’ll explore the impact of the Picts on this majestic landscape. Known as ‘Picti’ by the Romans, meaning ‘Painted Ones’ in Latin, these northern tribes constituted the largest kingdom in Dark Age Scotland. 13th century Fortrose Cathedral with a brief stop at Chanonry Point to see if we can spot any dolphins. Then on to Groam House Museum to learn about their collection of carved Pictish stones from the 8th century AD. On to Cromarty. An enchanting wee town, perfect for a brief wander and a coffee before boarding the ferry and off to explore the Pictish sites and stones at Nigg, Shandwick and Hilton of Cadboll. Look at for random mermaids!! There’s a great lunch opportunity here before continuing on our journey to meet a Pictish Queen at The Tarbat Discovery Centre, Portmahomack, the epi-centre of the 8th century Pictish monastic estate. We can take a quick diversion out to see Tarbat Ness lighthouse before taking in our final Pictish stone of the day, the Edderton Cross Slab.

Let us take you to the Scottish Castle that has been lived in by every King & Queen since Queen Victoria in 1856. You will be able to walk through the grounds and visit the State Room in the castle. Then we will visit Crathie Kirk which has been attended by the Royal Family since Victorian times. Finally onto Royal Lochnagar Distillery for a tour or tasting or both. The distillery, opened in 1845, is one mile from the castle and sits at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains.

Kilts, bagpipes, Gaelic, clans and hot Jacobites (I'm looking at you, Jamie Fraser) - so many of our Scottish stereotypes come from the Highlands. Inverness has always been the capital of the Highlands, the gateway between the Highland and Lowland communities. Yet Inverness has a complicated relationship with its Highland heritage. On this tour, you will delve into that relationship through ancient legends, invented traditions and a battle about a cheese. This audio tour takes you on a 3km walk around the highlights of the town. It takes an hour without stopping but you can pause the tour whenever you choose. Leaving from Inverness, we will travel on the Great Glen, reaching the little village of Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness. After our visit, we will head west to reach the romantic Eilean Donan castle after about an hour and a half drive. Visit in the castle and lunch is a must. On the second part of our journey we will cross over to the Island of Skye and Portree and experience the island life. Please note that this is a long day and it would be ideal as a day tour rather then a shore excursion but if you would like it to be a shore excursion it can be altered to suit your requirements. This tour can be booked from Inverness, Invergordon or Portree with the necessary alterations.
