Kilts, bagpipes, Gaelic, clans and hot Jacobites (I'm looking at you, Jamie Fraser) - so many of our Scottish stereotypes come from the Highlands. Inverness has always been the capital of the Highlands, the gateway between the Highland and Lowland communities. Yet Inverness has a complicated relationship with its Highland heritage. On this tour, you will delve into that relationship through ancient legends, invented traditions and a battle about a cheese. This audio tour takes you on a 3km walk around the highlights of the town. It takes an hour without stopping but you can pause the tour whenever you choose. Leaving from Inverness, we will travel on the Great Glen, reaching the little village of Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness. After our visit, we will head west to reach the romantic Eilean Donan castle after about an hour and a half drive. Visit in the castle and lunch is a must. On the second part of our journey we will cross over to the Island of Skye and Portree and experience the island life. Please note that this is a long day and it would be ideal as a day tour rather then a shore excursion but if you would like it to be a shore excursion it can be altered to suit your requirements. This is a half day tour taking you out to Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness side as well as to Culloden Battlefield where the last battle on British soil took place on the 16th April 1746 , Clava Cairns , Beauly Priory and around Inverness and we will stop to see some Highland Coos and also stop at the Culloden Viaduct which was built in 1898.

We will collect you in Inverness. You’ll go to culloden battlefield and into the virtual reality battle, then clava cairns which was the inspiration for Creag Dubh. Then off on a drive through Inverness city with photo opportunities of Inverness castle. Loch Ness then awaits as we drive by for 30 minutes on our way to Drumnadrochit. There we go into the newly refurbished Nessie centre. After 50 minutes wander around the gift shop or visit the smallest gin distillery in the UK where you can sample free their gin. Urquhart castle next nestled on the loch. Then over wild land Culnakirk (Simon the Fox Fraser country) then down into Beauly. See the old Priory or shops or straight onto Robertson’s farm to see the Highland cows. One guide for up to 6 people, for more we provide two guides for up to 16 people.

This tour takes in all the "Must See" attractions and destinations in and around Inverness. A day of historic sights, epic views and tall tales awaits! We enjoy lovely views of the Beauly Firth as we head to Beauly Priory. Originally built in the 13th century by monks from Dijon, France, much of the main structure remains. From here we'll head over the hill to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy exploring this fascinating landmark whilst admiring the unrivalled views of Loch Ness. We then pass through Old Inverness, stopping to enjoy the river and more, before heading for Cawdor Castle & Gardens and the 4000 year old Clava Cairns. Our final destination is Culloden Battlefield, site of the last ever battle fought on British soil and where the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion came to its tragic end.
