I was born and brought up in Inverness, and am enthusiastic about the visiting potential of this area, and know it well. I was a hostess/guide in the observation car of the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh during the summer season when I was at University. I provided a running commentary during the journey, and helped travellers with suggestions on where to eat on arrival, what they should see in the area, and information on the Isle of Skye.

This tour is very Scenic visiting areas of Inverness you won’t see on foot or public transport or driving. The Waterways Tour rides along the River Ness and The Caledonian Canal with many stops to learn about the area. A local guide who has lived in Inverness all their life will share history and local events with you. We use easy to ride cruiser bikes on a flat route just over 6 miles. We will start of with a visit to a beautiful Castle, Cawdor Castle which is linked to Shakespeare's Macbeth, but home to the magical, fairy tale castle. It dates from the late 14th century, having been built as a private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor, with the ancient medieval tower built around the legendary holly tree - wherever you look, Cawdor Castle is steeped in intrigue and history. A short drive from here will take us to the famous site of the last battle fought on British soil, Culloden Battlefield for visit and lunch. Culloden Battlefield has been restored as close as possible to how it was when battle took place in April 1746. There is a fantastic state of the art visitors centre, where we have time to take in over 250yrs of history and artifacts since the Battle. After lunch, a 5 minute drive to the Clava cairns. This is a fascinating historical place dating back to 2000BC. A Clava Cairn is a type of circular chamber tomb cairn from the Bronze Age.

Balmoral Castle & Royal Lochnagar Distillery From Inverness ​ Before stopping at the castle we will stop at the crathie kirk church for 30 mins before going on to Balmoral Estate. ​ In 2025 the grounds, gardens, exhibitions, gift shop and cafe will be open to the Public on a daily basis from 1st April until 31st July. Opening times are from 10.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. however please note that the last recommended admission is at 4.30 p.m. We recommend that you set aside at least one and a half hours for your visit to Balmoral. This will give you time to visit the grounds, gardens, exhibitions, gift shop and the Pipers Hall Cafe. You will have access to the formal and vegetable gardens, the exhibitions in the stable area and largest room in the Castle, the Ballroom. Their is also a audio handset tour, which is available in English together with Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish translations.
