Visit Poienari Fortress, the real Vlad Tepes' Residential Castle and we drive on Transfagarasan highway, built as a strategic military route, is the second-highest paved road in Romania and considered by some to be the most dramatic. Driving on Transfagarasan Highway as know as "the Road to the Sky", "the Road to the Clouds", "the Best Driving Road in the World" and even "A spectacular Monument to Earth-Moving Megalomania"! IMPORTANT: !!!Due to some construction works on the road, the tour might take longer than usual!!! Transfagarasan road is open in 2024 between June 7 - October 31! When the Transfagarasan road is closed (November 1 - June 30) we drive up to the Balea Waterfall (no visit of Poienari Fortress and Vidradu Dam). If the weather conditions allows, we take the cable car up to the Balea Lake (extra 20 euro/person). We visit the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey of Carta and the amazing Sambata de Sus Monastery, also.

Consider a min. of 4-5h for a day hike extendable to 8-10h choosing private departure on a longer route. Prior to departure, the guide will talk with you about every option and will make appropriate decision for the route to follow Starting the hike from a high point, the nearby road passes at 1135m alt. We will hike towards the peak along the ridge line. A June hike reveals us slopes full of Rhododendron - a beautiful red flower. Near the peak, there are impressive rock formations that will delight our views. The Last ascent will be all the way up to the main Ciucas Peak, followed by a descent on the other side to Cabana Ciucas. A good stop for a refreshing drink before our return circuit hike.

Built by a professional photographer, the bear hide in the Tusnad area is designed to offer tourists one of the best bear watching experience in Romania. A one-way mirror window prevents bears from seeing inside so that tourists can safely watch these animals from as close as 10 meters. Sometimes they even come right to the windows. The bear hide is specially built on the ground, at the same level with the animals and they are completely safe. Moreover, they are perfect for professional and also amateur photographers.
