Lemosho route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west. You will begin with a drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. Once you are here, you will spend your first two days trekking through the rainforest to Shira ridge. Lemosho is considered to be the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro. It is our favorite one, because it offers a perfect balance between low traffic, scenic views and a higher summit success (around 80%). Lemosho route is about 70km (42miles) long, from gate to gate. Unlike the highly popular Machame route which simply brushes the Shira Plateau, Lemosho route goes across the entire plateau, from West to the East in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. The route takes more days to climb, so it offers great acclimatization opportunities.

Marangu Route also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well-established route on Mount Kilimanjaro, and is also the only route offering comfortable sleeping huts at every campsite with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are shared by all climbers and the bunks have sponge mattresses and pillows so require fewer supplies. The Marangu Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. It is, unfortunately, less scenic than other routes because the ascent and descent are on the same path. Compared to other routes, it offers relative luxury. Rongai Route: The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, Rongai has low traffic. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu route, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation). The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, and seven days are recommended. Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, Rongai makes up for this by passing through true wilderness areas for days before joining the Marangu route at Kibo camp. This route descends down the Marangu route. Rongai is a moderately difficult route, and is highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience.
