If it is Nairobi, this will mean after early breakfast on day 6 depart Ngorongoro via Arusha with drop off at the Kenya / Tanzania boarder of Namanga. The Rongai route is more exhilarating as it gives you an opportunity to trek through two ways, ascend through the Rongai path and descend through Maragu way. It ascend the highest point of Africa, that is, MT Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the mountain passing along the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It has a unique weather and vegetation state which give added advantage to the trekkers at the wilderness.

This is the highest mountain in Africa. It is snow caped and world’s highest free standing volcano summits. The mountain comprises of two dormant volcanoes (Kibo 5,895m a.m.s.l and Mawenzi 5,149m a.m.s.l) and one extinct volcano (Shira 3,962m a.m.s.l) respectively. The origin of the word is not well known but it said to be a combination of the Swahili word Kilima meaning “Mountain” and the Kichagga word Njaro, loosely translated as “Whiteness” giving the name “White Mountain”. Its size is 1,712Km2 and was declared as a National Park in 1973, officially opened for tourism in 1977, Kilimanajaro mountain was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and Natural Wonder of Africa in 2013. Climbing to the top which is far up into the sky it’s a life time experience that no one can forget. There are seven official trekking routes by which to ascend and descend Kilimanjaro: Lemosho, Lemosho Western-Breach, Machame, Marangu, Mweka, Rongai, Shira, and Umbwe

The newest route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit is the longest of the routes but promises a quieter, more personal climb. Beginning on the Lemosho Route, climbers will eventually split away and traverse the mountain’s northern slopes far away from the crowds. The extra time taken to adjust to high altitude on this climb mean it boasts the highest success rate of all routes.

The Rongai route is one of the most favourable routes to attempt Kilimanjaro during the rainy season, as it sees substantially less rain than the southern routes. The route ‘also known as the Nalemuru route’ is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the North, close to the Kenyan border. Rongai route offers a true wilderness experience in the early stages of the climb, it is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu route, for those who want a more remote hike and for those who climb during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation). A typical ascent takes five to nine days depending on the number of hours per day spent on climbing. b) In 2003, South African Bernard Goosen scaled the mountain twice in a wheelchair. His first summit was in 2003 and took nine days while his second, which was four years later, took six days. He used a modified wheelchair to make the climb.
