The Lemosho Route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Not too long ago, there were only two main routes used to climb Kilimanjaro, the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route. But as Tanzania’s tourism industry flourished, the Kilimanjaro park authority created more trails to African’s highest peak. Lemosho, a relatively new route, is preferred by reputable operators due to its beauty, remoteness, and success rate. In short, it maximizes the chances that a climber will reach the summit, and enjoy the experience overall. The Lemosho route can be done in as little as six days (five nights) on the mountain.
The Lemosho route is one of our top recommended route due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. The Lemosho route starts off from the west, beginning with a long drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the lush rainforest to Shira Plateau. We recommend a minimum of 7 days to attempt this route but 8 days is preferable for better acclimatization and summit success. The Lemosho route joins the Machame route at Shira 2 Camp and then follows the same route through the southern circuit and descending at Mweka Gate.
Experience Tanzania's highlights on this 5-day safari. Travel to Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park, three of Africa’s premier wildlife areas. These 6 days and 5 nights Safari will take you to Tanzania’s most visited Destinations. The Northern Tanzania Parks including the leading extraordinary park in Africa the Serengeti. Lake Manyara small yet incredibly striking and breathtaking, it offers a variety of landscapes, from its flat soda lake to its dense forests and the rugged cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment. And lastly Tarangire National Park a place where large groups of elephants call it home.
Furthermore to the mysterious Ngorongoro Crater a landscape like no other on earth, that offers vast views over a beautiful natural sanctuary where wildlife encounters lie around every corner. And the most fascinating thing is the annual migration that is found around Ngorongoro/Serengeti – Ndutu Area during the months of December to mid-April. This is the only place in Tanzania these wildebeest will come back for calving remarkable!!
Marangu Route, commonly known as the Coca Cola route is more popular because it can be done in fewer days and has permanent sleep huts at the campsites. Summit night from Kibo Hut is steep and passes Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. It is a shorter route with a steeper incline and less time for acclimatization it tends to have a lower summit success rate. This is the only route where the ascent and descent route is shared, thus creating more traffic. Duration: 5 or 6 days Difficulty: Medium Scenery: Good Traffic: High

It is a popular destination for day trip visitors who are about to embark from the town of Arusha on longer northern circuit safaris. The small national park includes the slopes, summit, and ash cone of Mt. Meru, the Momela Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater, and the lush highland forests that blanket its lower slopes. Game viewing around the Momela Lakes is at a laid-back and quiet pace, and while passing through the forest many visitors stop to search for troupes of rare colubus monkeys playing in the canopy.
It is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and diverse landscapes, including lush rainforests, expansive heathlands, moorlands, and stunning alpine desert zones. Trekkers experience a wide range of ecosystems, offering a comprehensive journey through Kilimanjaro's natural beauty.
Compared to some of the more popular routes like Marangu and Machame, Lemosho typically has fewer trekkers, providing a quieter and more serene trekking experience.
The longer duration (usually 7-8 days) and gradual ascent profile of Lemosho contribute to a higher success rate in reaching the summit. This route allows for better acclimatization, reducing the risk of altitude-related issues.
Lemosho passes through remote and less-traveled areas of Kilimanjaro, offering opportunities to spot wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, and antelope, as well as a variety of unique flora.
The route approaches the summit from the west, providing stunning views of Kilimanjaro's western slopes and the Shira Plateau.
