The trek through the Ngorongoro Highlands into Lake Natron is one of the most off-the-beaten-path destinations in Northern Tanzania. The hugely popular parks of Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are just around the corner, but you will have this area largely to yourselves. Additionally, you have the opportunity to climb Ol Doinyo Lengai, the world's only active carbonatite volcano. The landscape surrounding Lake Natron is unique in the world, as are the relatively untouched Maasai villages in this area.

Marangu route which is also known as the coca cola route is the least expensive route to the summit. This is also the only route with the comforts of sleeping huts at every campsite with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow. There are 60 beds at both Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 beds at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. Mens’ and ladies’ latrines are available at the last camp but are very basic. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. This route is usually done in 5 days (the shortest route to the summit) but can be done in 6 days for better acclimatization. The extra day can be spent resting at Horombo or climbing the small peak of Mawenzi.

Less crowded because of its remote location the route offers trekkers a unique wilderness experience where it is possible to see large wildlife like antelope, elephant and buffalo. As there is typically less moisture on this side of the mountain you are less likely to encounter rain and have more unclouded views of the peak. While it is flatter, it does not give the climb high sleep low option and therefore recommended to select more days for acclimatization. The Rongai route is one of the easier routes up Kilimanjaro. This astonishing annual Great Migration of wildebeest and other grazing herbivores across the Serengeti is one of the most amazing sights in nature, which takes place seasonally in Tanzania and Kenya, clearly demonstrating the rhythms of life in Africa.  First the rain turns the grass luscious and green attracting the wildebeest, which in turn attract the predators in the form of lions and crocodiles, who feed on the wildebeest as they cross the savannah and rivers following the path of the ripening grass. The tour begins with a one-hour trip to a somewhat unlikely site, a Polish cemetery. Visitors will learn about the little known history of some 5,000 refugees who arrived in Tanzania after fleeing Europe during WW2. We then proceed to Mangalia Waterfalls where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool waters that flow down from Mount Meru. On the way back down we will have a closer look at Tanzanian culture by exploring three villages, Akheri, Patandi and Mavinuni. This is followed by a short stop at Lake Duluti, where we will enjoy a drink and the lake view for 20 minutes before returning to the meeting point. Clients may arrange with us for additional activities at the lake (canoeing, sport fishing etc.) if they so wish.
