Amazing hike in the central part of the island at the bottom of the volcano of Lagoa do Fogo, where you will hike among lush vegetation, water streams and a beautiful natural waterfall that you can even swim in. In the end of the hike, you will also have the opportunity to relax on the hotsprings that are naturally heated by Lagoa do Fogo volcano. Also included in this tour is one of the most important views of the Island - the viewpoint to the caldera of Lagoa do Fogo - one of the seven wonders of Portugal! This hike takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete and it is 8.5 km (5.2miles) long with a medium difficulty level.

Following by the southern coast, we'll arrive to the village of Povoação, where we will stop to taste the famous "Fofas da Povoação" (local pastry). Visit Sete Cidades Volcano where you will be driven in a 4x4 through the ridge of the crater heading to the inside, uncovering the secrets and legends of this geologic complex, with stops along the way to enjoy the beautiful and astonishing landscapes. Explore as well the north west part on the outside of the crater visiting Mosteiros a lava deltic formed from the erupçtion of Pico da Mafra, and Ferraria another lava deltic from the erupction of Pico das Camarinhas, two of the forty six erupctions that occurred around the Caldera od the volcano since its colapse at 36000 years ago.

This route is linear and easy-to-reach. It starts at Vista do Rei viewpoint, with starting point on the western side of Sete Cidades caldera, from this point at the right side it’s possible to see Caldeira Seca and Sete Cidades lakes and at the left side the western coast of S. Miguel island. After the unpaved path it’s easy to reach Sete Cidades parish with just a turn to the right. This trail runs through Protected Landscape area. Extension: 7,7 km NOTE: a minimum of 2 persons is required.
