The Machame route, also known as the Whiskey route, is one of the most popular routes on Kilimanjaro. In spite of being a tough climb compared to the Marangu route, the Machame route has one of the highest summit success rates. The topography of the route allows climbers to “trek high & sleep low”, which helps in acclimatization, which makes it one of the most favorable routes for acclimatization.The Machame route is scenically striking and diverse. The Umbwe Route is one of the most direct and steepest paths to the summit. It ascends rapidly, which can make the trek more physically demanding. It is characterized by rugged terrain and dense rainforest, which can make for a more arduous trek compared to other routes. Despite its challenges, the route offers stunning views and diverse landscapes, including lush forests, moorlands, and alpine deserts. The Umbwe Route is less frequented than more popular routes like Marangu or Machame, providing a more solitary and less crowded trekking experience. Acclimatization: Due to its steep ascent, the Umbwe Route has a higher risk of altitude sickness, as it does not allow for gradual acclimatization. Trekkers often need to be more prepared for the effects of high altitude. Typically, the Umbwe Route is completed in 6 to 7 days to allow for proper acclimatization and to manage the challenging ascent, although shorter itineraries are possible.

6 DAYS KILIMANJARO CLIMBING VIA MACHAME TOURE “ THE WHISKY ROUTE” Machame is the climbing route which is more difficult route than the Marangu route. The route is known to be the most scenic route of the Kilimanjaro Mountain as it gives the climber an experience of the scenic view. The route is well known due to the success rate of summit for the climbers at it gives a great time for acclimatization on the ascending to the Lover tower and descending to Baranco before heading up to Karanga and the Barafu to the Summit. With this route on second day you will join other climbers from Lemosho and Shira routes before heading to the lover tower up to the summit and descending through the Mweka gate as it is different from the Marangu route, the ascending route for Machame route is not the same as the descending route, as you will be ascending via the Machame route and descending via the Mweka route to Mweka gate.
