Formerly a Game Reserve since 1951, Mkomazi was upgraded into a ‘National Park’ status in 2008. It is located 6km from Same town, covering an area of 3,245square km. The Mkomazi National Park is a spectacular wilderness. Within sight to the northwest is Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest summit. To the south, the Pare and Usambara Mountains form a dramatic backdrop and, to the north, Kenya’s vast Tsavo National Park shares a border with Mkomazi, making common ground for migratory herds of elephant, oryx and zebra during the wet season. Together with Tsavo, it forms one of the largest and most important protected ecosystems on earth. Why should you go to Mkomazi Park? The park is not well known and because of that it has its charme. It’s not crowd and the animals are acting natural. Almost all species can be found. Mkomazi is vital refuge for two highly endangered species, the charismatic black rhino and sociable African wild dog. It’s a cheap alternative for the northern national park

Mt. Meru is located in the heart of Arusha National Park and it is 50 miles west of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru is a massive volcano reaching 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). This trek serves as an ideal warm up for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude acclimatization and hiking distances. This trek is also geared towards hikers that prefer less crowds and a challenging ascent.
Because Mount Meru is located in Arusha National Park, hikers must climb with an armed ranger due to the wide range of wildlife living on the mountain. On the lower slopes of the mountain, hikers are more likely to see elephants, giraffes, and buffalo! As hikers continue their ascents, the trail follows the north rim of the volcano’s crater along a dramatic ridge line. Throughout the climb, hikers sleep in designated huts along the trail. Hikers reach the summit as the sun is rising and they will have spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and o

The Machame route is one of my most recommended routes to climb Kilimanjaro as it offers great acclimatisation, allowing the climbers to “walk high, sleep low”, and as a result enjoy one of the highest summit success rate of all the routes to climb Mt Kilimanjaro.
It goes by the nickname of “The Whisky Route” although no whisky is available!
This 7-day program to climb Kilimanjaro offers a great acclimatisation and allows the pre-summit day to be split into 2, which means that you have 2 shorter days of trekking prior to your summit ascent. This really helps and has proved a great success, as well as a more enjoyable way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Here are some of the key facts of the ascent I organise for my clients:
Highly recommended route with best success rate
Allows travellers to “walk high and sleep low” enabling better acclimatisation
Ascent and descent via different routes
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through other routes is also possible: Rongai, Marangu or Lemosho.
Materuni Waterfalls, Moshi, Kilimanjaro RegionAfter pick up will head to the Materuni village, will do a short but challenging hike to the materuni falls and enjoy the beautiful view of the falls later on will visit a coffee farm & learn about how coffee is grown, harvested & processed, you will then try your hand at roasting & preparing a fresh cup of raw & local coffew together with having local lunch fresh preoared. Lastly then after will drive you back to your hotel.
