In the afternoon, various towns and villages commemorate the Passion of the Christ with a solemn procession of statues. Each statue represents a particular episode in the Passion of the Christ and is carried by bearers. Participants are dressed as biblical characters who take part in the procession in a dignified manner. Many processions include men bearing a cross and sometimes dragging chains tied to their bare feet as an act of faith or penance. Peter’s Pool Rocky Beach is a tricky to find hidden treasure in the south of Malta that that will not fail to impress. If you have never experienced swimming from a rocky beach in the Mediterranean, Peter’s Pool is certainly a great place to start. Look out for the two carved circular stone tables, thought to have been used for funerary rites, or for celebrations honouring the dead.
