In this private tour our first stop is Kourna’s lake the only fresh water lake in Crete, where we will have a coffee break admiring the view. After we will ride a pedalo boat around the lake. Hike through one of the worlds greatest natural wonders. From Omalos at a hight of 1235 m the gorge of Samaria cuts 16 km through the landscape. The gorge is situated in the Samaria National park. It is 150 m at its widest point and 3 m at its narrowest. It is home to over 450 species of plants and animals, that can only be seen in Crete. The gorge starts from Xyloskalo and continues down to the sea level in the village of Agia Roumeli at the Libyan sea. The village of Samariá lies inside the gorge to make way for the park and particularly as a refuge for the rare Cretan goat, Kri-Kri or Agrimi, which is largely restricted to the park. After a strenuous but spectacular walk, we travel by boat – an equally beautiful trip – from Agia Roumeli to Chora Sfakia where our bus will be waiting. The hike is not suggested for people facing health problems, or suffering from conditions affecting their lower extremities the elderly pregnant women.

For this excursion, you will be picked up from your hotel area by our airconditioned bus. The first stop is at the Spili village. You will have a chance to see a 100% traditional village with its well know lion-head fountains in the middle of the village. Walking along its cobbled streets you can explore the tourist shops which are full of traditional Cretan products. The next stop is at the amphitheatrically built village of AgiaGalini. Here will have 2 hrs to explore the village. The next stop is at Matala where you will have 3 hr of free time to enjoy the golden sandy beach. Matala is not only known for its beautiful beaches but also for its artificially carved caves that date all the way back to the Minoan period. These same caves were later occupied by a hippy commune in the late 60’s and 70’s. Many musicians have composed song about the beauty of Matala including Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. Put on your walking shoes for a full-day Samaria Gorge hike in Crete. Traveling with a comfortable air-conditioned coach, we head into Crete’s White Mountains to the entrance of the spectacular gorge, one of Europe’s longest. Starting our trip to Samaria Gorge early in the morning and towards Omalos. In the bus, our guide will provide you with useful information about the place, the history, the formation of the White Mountains, the flora, the fauna and some tips for the safety and regulations inside the gorge. During the trip we have a short refreshment stop and then we follow the way to Xyloskalo which is the entrance to the Gorge. The hiking is free which means you can keep your own pace while crossing the gorge. Finishing the Samaria Gorge hike you will reach the amazing beachside village of Agia Roumeli which is one of the most unspoilt beaches of South Crete. Our coach will be waiting for you either at Sfakia or Sougia where you will reach by taking the boat from Agia Roumeli.

If you are looking for a light hike combining a beach or winery, this is the perfect tour for you! Imbros gorge is located south of Lefka Ori mountains and take less than 3 hours to cross. The hike starts from Imbros village. I will drop you off at the entrance, then pick you up at the end. Most of the hike is in the shade with a narrow trail that you cannot be lost. There is a small stream which is dry in the summer so it's good to have a sufficient supply of water. Imbros gorge is a small version of Samaria gorge. Imbros is breathtaking, ideal for nature lovers and wildlife watchers. Being a dad, I believe its the best hike for children from 10 years old. After Imbros we will visit Frangokastello beach and stay 2 hours. If you wish you could eat in the local restaurant in front of the beach. Alternatively instead of the beach we could do a wine tasting at a winery for an hour. We could make a final optional visit to an oil factory for 30 minutes.
