Plovdiv is on the 6th place for oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in Europe. Inhabited since 4,000 B.C., beginning with a Neolithic settlement, Plovdiv has been conquered many times throughout the years by the Thracians, the Greeks and the Romans.
The Thracian Temple Complex, Starosel- this is the oldest ever found royal Thracian complex with a mausoleum. It dates back to the end of the 5th century. Ceremonies, related to the cult to the Mother Goddess and Orpheus were performed in the temple.
Hisarya- the settlement’s heyday was during the Roman era. In 293, Emperor Diocletian declared it a town and this marked the beginning of the construction.
We will visit the Roman bath, which is the best preserved bath in the country. The baths were built in the second half of the 3rd century.
Hisarya is one of the best spa centers in Bulgaria. If you wish, we will have the opportunity to take a dip in the healing water.
The tour will start in front of the entrance of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral - one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in Eastern Europe, which is also one of the main attractions in the capital of Bulgaria. Then I will take you to a special underground crypt - a museum of Bulgarian icon painting. We continue to a newly opened and modern art gallery - Nova Art Space. Afterwards we will pass the Presidency and enter the tunnels where the Ancient Complex Serdika is located.
