The Canoeing Trail operates above the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on on the Zambezi River. This section of the river is quite unlike the better-known section below Lake Kariba. Here the Zambezi River is regarded as FREE FLOW as a dam does not control it, as such the water is subject to seasonal variation. Floods begin in January and normally peak in April / May. This changes the route as new channels open with the rise in water level. There are numerous islands, which are dissected by channels that may be several kilometres in length and vary in width from one to twenty metres. Rapids are small and at their peak are only classed as grade one, so easily manageable in the canoes we use. The Canoe Trail passes along the banks of the Zambezi National Park, where clients have a good chance of viewing various species of animals, such as Elephants, Buffalo, Impala, Kudu, Hippo, Crocodile etc. The birdlife is prolific with at least 50 common species of bird that can be seen from your canoe.

Wake up around 6:30 for tea & coffee and biscuits followed by breakfast .This includes eggs , backed beans , sausages , beacon tomato onion, toast, batter and jam.About an hour drive to the launch site, safety talk and demonstration on how to paddle an inflatable canoe will be given after which you will be launched then paddling through some awesome Tsowa channels until a stop is made for a pic-niclunch . Situated in the southwest of Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park is the largest National Park in the country, covering more than 14,600 square kilometres (5,863 square miles) or 1,460,000 hectares. Hwange National Park really is a great game park, for me it is genuine Africa, not filled with tourists in minibuses crowding around a lion kill as one might expect in Kruger . Hwange offers unique sightings of less common wildlife, such as the brown hyena, a smaller, desert-adapted version of the well-known spotted hyena. Although not endemic to the area, Hwange National Park is one of the best places to see them. Keep an eye out for the sneaky aardvark, porcupine, and pangolin as they are notoriously tough to spot.
