See what the Basque Country was like long time ago: small fairy taIe villages frozen in time. To a world in love with France, it’s the little sister who did not get invited to the dance. We will cross the border from Spain into France and after a scenic drive of 1,5 h approx. we will get to our first stop of the day, Saint Jean Pied de Port. From its foundation in the latter part of the 12th century, the town became the strong point for the Kingdom of Navarre on the north side of the Pyrenees. After a short stroll through the town, following the footsteps of the pilgrims, we will stop in the picturesque town of Bidarray to observe the beginning of the Pyrenees from its 12th-century church’s promenade. From here we will take a fascinating back-road, that take us to Espelette. Before coming back we will stop in Bayonne that boasts an exceptional cultural heritage, a melting pot of French, Basque, Gascon and Jewish cultures…

We will pick you up from your hotel or place of choice in Biarritz. The pick up will be a private pick up only for you. Visit a Basque Cider House Farm and enjoy the traditional cider house menu by the hand of a local. We will drive towards the village of Astigarraga, famous for its farmhouses and cider tradition, and enjoy the typical Cider House menu consisting of: cod omelet, fried cod with green peppers and onions, “Txuleta”: bone-in rib-eye steak, Idiazabal cheese with quince and walnuts, and self-serve cider. You will travel as part of a small group with a minimum of 2 guests and a maximum of 7. Lunch and hotel pickup and drop-ff is included.

We head to the roof of Gipuzkoa to find a building covered in ‘thorns’, a walk more than 1,000 meters high among meadows and forests, and a breed of Rastafarian sheep from whose milk the most famous cheese in the region is made.

This visit gives you a chance to learn about the work of Basque farmers visiting a 16th-century farmhouse. Afterwards, the trip continues through the landscape until we reach the Cider House. You will get to know the family that runs it and the steps required to make Basque cider will be explained.
