The Picnic on the Peak is one of our most popular excursions. Queenstown has some of the most breathtaking scenery in New Zealand and what better way to enjoy the remarkable views of Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps than enjoying a champagne picnic perched high up on one of the peaks.

This 3/4 Day ride begins with a shuttle from Around The Basin’s shop in Queenstown out to their bike-hub at Arrow Junction (7 km away from Arrowtown). There you will be fitted to a bike and given all the info you need to know about the wineries. The first part of the ride is along a 6 km (4 miles) section of scenic bike trail. It follows the Arrow and Kawarau river gorges, over the Edgar Swing Bridge, and onto the Kawarau Bungy-Jump Bridge. The afternoon will be spent biking along the magnificent Gibbston River Trail, visiting as many of the cellar doors as you like. Enjoy a relaxed lunch at one of the wineries. If you ride all the way to the end, you will cover around 17 km (11 miles) on easy-riding, gravel bike trail. The return shuttle will pick you up at 4:30 pm from your winery of choice in the Gibbston Valley. This three-day journey from Queenstown to Te Anau and back allows plenty of time to explore the magical Te Anau Glow Worm caves and spend a night on memorable Doubtful Sound; a remote fiord on a grand scale the likes of which you won’t believe! This trail travels alongside Lake Dunstan on the opposite side of the lake to the road that travels between Cromwell and Clyde. The engineering involved to create this trail is stunning with clip-ons attached to the rockface in places, the Hugo Suspension Bridge plus a very good trail surface throughout the ride.
