One of the most iconic sights in mainland Greece, Cape Sounion is a must for photographers, Instagrammers, and history buffs. The Temple of Poseidon is perched on the edge of a cliff, located 70 meters above the sea. Built in the 5th century BC, the temple is in the typical Greek hexastyle - featuring six doric columns on the front portico. 16 out of the original 38 columns are still standing today, and they were 20 feet tall. During our way back from Sounio, we will stop at the Lake of Vouliagmeni, another stop worth while visiting. Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion was built in 44 B.C., and many of its original Doric columns are still standing. Visit Ancient Corinth, countless ancient myths, like the myth of Sisyphus. The ancient city was destroyed by the Romans, who built a new city in its place, we can still see the extensive ruins of the Temple of Apollo that testify to Corinth’s great prosperity. It is also one of the places that Saint Paul visited and wrote letters to. As we cross the Corinth canal, we stop to see the great feat of engineering that finally opened the route between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf, it was finished in 1893, even though the idea existed at least as far back as 602 BC! We also visit Nemea, an ancient wine-making region of Greece. Nemea is home to a grape variety named "Agiorgitiko" that is at least 3,000 years old. Due to the different microclimates in the region, there are a variety of different wines produced here, from fruity and light to mature and full-bodied. At the winery we discover how wine is made and try different types of wine.
