We will depart from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. for a scenic drive through Chile's intermediate depression, offering stunning views of the Andes Mountains. On our way, we’ll pass the historic Chacabuco Monument, site of one of the most significant battles in Chile’s fight for independence (1817). We will then cross the international tunnel marking the regional boundary, where you’ll have a breathtaking view of Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Southern Hemisphere. Our first stop is the In Situ Vineyard in San Esteban, where you'll enjoy a tasting of premium local wines. Continuing our journey through Río Blanco, we’ll pass small villages, mining camps, and awe-inspiring mountain ranges before arriving at Portillo, home to the renowned Inca Lagoon. Take in the magnificent views while you have lunch (on your own) by the serene lagoon, surrounded by the beauty of the Andes. Early in the morning, we will collect you from your hotel in Santiago. From there, we will head to our first stop - Cementerio General (the city's cemetery). This location is a kind of open-air museum, constructed almost two centuries ago, where we will discover Chile's recent history through the numerous graves of the notable people buried here. In the cemetery will visit various sites of historical importance, such as Patio 29 - where thousands of bodies were secretly buried during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet Later we will visit the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, a space which shows the horrors committed during the military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990. Last, we head to Villa Grimaldi, a three-acre estate which was used as a community arts center until 1973 when General Pinochet turned it into a political detention and interrogation center known as Cuartel Terranova.
