Today you will learn about real Albania living in villages and also how they have lived centuries ago. Will head towards south-east of Albania, to Belsh, a small town which is the center of an area called Dumre plateau, known for more than 86 small karstic origin lakes.
Our day will continue heading south towards the 2000-year-old town of Berati, registered and protected by UNESCO as an important cultural heritage site since 2008. There we will visit the Berati fortress, one of the few fortresses in Albania that continue to be inhabited; it is set on a 187-meter-high hill, on the left side of the Osumi River slope.
Within the fortress, we will visit the Church of Saint Mary and the Onufri Museum within it, and a few byzantine churches. On the old quarter of Berat, coming down from the fortress, we will admire the characteristic architecture of the houses as well as the King Mosque, Bachelor’s Mosque, and Halvetie Teqe.
Discover one of the most beautiful cities in Albania. Kruja provides visitors with great views of the majestic local landscape and a rich collection of historical sites. Kruja is home to the museum of our national hero Skanderbeg, placed within his castle and it is the perfect place in Albania to learn about our national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and Albanian history. Scanderbeg protected the Ottoman army and three sultans for 25 years. He was considered by the Pope as an Athleta Cristi because he had halted the westward expansion of the Ottoman Empire. Visit the Ethnographic Museum, where you will learn about the traditions and lifestyles of Albanian people at those times. The tour will proceed with a visit to the Castle, of the panoramic view and landscape, and imagine how they fought with the Ottomans for 25 years protecting their castle and city You will also take a nice walk in the old bazaar from the 15-16 century to explore a world of arts and crafts of the Albanians.

Today you are going to visit Vlora, one of the most beautiful towns in Albania blessed with Adriatic and the Ionian Sea. The first visit will be at Zvërnec, Narta lagoon. The island where the Monastery is located is connected to the land through a very picturesque and unique wooden bridge 270 m long, where we will walk across the Zvërneci lagoon with the morning sun. The monastery was built during the 13 century and is dedicated to Mary. During communism time was used for military purposes, hence its beautiful frescos are deteriorated and in need of immediate restoration.
After we will head towards Vlora, where we will visit the Kanina fortress with a magnificent view of Vlora bay. Then will visit the old heart of Vlora town and explain its history.

This hike is unique. We spent many days over the winter of 2024/25 in the Tirana Valleys researching the route.
Unlike most Tirana day trips, our hike takes place in Tirana County itself. There is no long transfer! It is just 24km from Mother Teresa Square to the hike start point (we'll allow 40 minutes).
You'll be walking through a beautiful area that has zero tourism activity, and is not visited even by Tirana folk. We're very confident that the only people we'll meet are local villagers and shepherds.
The scenery is simply incredible. You won't believe you are just a few kilometres from Tirana.
This hike is possible to make from early October through till the end of April. In the summer months the temperatures are just too hot for comfortable walking.
