Discover a world of marine science and one of the best snorkeling spots in the Hilo region at this family-friendly beach park. The only black-sand beach in the Hilo region provides relaxed swimming, sheltered rock pools for beautiful snorkeling and excellent surfing. Lava from Mauna Kea has formed a natural seawall at Richardson Ocean Park, making it a sheltered beach that is perfect snorkeling with giant sea turtles, monk seals and abundant sea life. Rock pools that fill at high tide make for shallow, detached swimming holes at low tide. Snorkel in the pools, without the stress of swell or currents.  

Happening at our farm you will learn how to brew your coffee at home like a pro. Our experience barista will provide all the basic knowledge necessary for brewing. Coffee brewing can be very simple with very little equipment and it can change the way you taste coffee. During this workshop we will brew the same coffee three different ways, and you will experience the differences of taste. All this is happening in our roasting room where you will also be able to see the roaster. And if you have time you can also add a free farm tour before or after the workshop.

With the help of our roaster guide you will learn how coffee is processed and roasted and the impacts on flavors. As one of the largest certified Organic coffee Farm in Kona we do all our roast in house. When you visit our honey farm in Hawaii you will enter the world of bees and beekeeping and gain a unique perspective on this important industry. And if you decide to take our beekeeping tour you'll have a box seat for viewing actual hives from a safe and secure screened area. Our beekeepers are eager to answer all your questions about bees and honey. We also provide free honey samples, and you will gain a much greater appreciation for the difference between raw honey and the honey bears on most grocery shelves.

My name is Christian, and I am a native Hawaiian student at the University of Hawaii studying culture, language, history, astronomy, geology, and oceanography of the Hawaiian islands. The culture and ways of these islands is one of fun, adventure, love, family, sustainability, and I believe it will save the world. I will be guiding you through the fauna and beauties of the national park, exploring the trails and lava formations, and teaching you about Kīlauea, its rain forests, endemic Hawaiian birds and the Hawaiian culture that has lived in harmony with this land. As darkness falls and the stars emerge from the heavens we will travel the path of Keanakakoʻi on Kīlauea. On the path we will be engulfed by the beauty of volcanic ecosystems and arrive at a cliff to see inside Halema'uma'u and its growing lake of lava/ Hawai'i is truly alive. Hawaiʻi is truly alive.

Big Island Farms is spread across 64 acres along the breathtaking Hamakua Coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean with panoramic views from Waipio to Hilo. The farm is carved into two large sections by the historic Hamakua canal which brings water from the pristine Kohala forest preserve and provides irrigation to the lower (makai) section of the property.
