SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS  (UNESCO HERITAGE SITE) Experience one of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO Heritage Sites, Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This historical site features a massive rock column nearly 200 meters high. King Kasyapa chose it for his capital, building a palace atop the rock and decorating it with colorful frescoes. Midway up, he constructed a lion-shaped gateway, giving the site its name, "Sihagiri" or Lion Rock.
