About 100 kilometers from Bucharest and 44 kilometers from Ploiesti, the Slanic salt mine is a recognized destination for balneal and touristic activities since 1853, when it was declared a tourist destination of national interest in Romania. Among the superlatives of the salt mine (especially the Union Mine), the most important tourist and health objective in the resort, there is a huge volume of excavated salt, about 2.9 million cubic meters, which led to the creation of cavities with gigantic volumes, respectively 14 trapezoidal rooms totaling about 80,000 square meters. The 14 underground rooms have an opening of 10 meters to the ceiling, 32 meters wide at the bottom, and the height is 54 meters. The depth of the salt mine is 208 meters. The impressive dimensions granted it the title of the largest salt mine in Europe.

This is a private tour to the largest salt mine in Romania and to the Muddy Volcanoes. We take you from your hotel and we drive for an hour and a half to the Salt Mine. Here we will enter under the ground (200 meters difference in level). We will see the largest salt mine in Romania that was mined in the 20th century. Inside you will find the biggest planetarium in Romania, with a dome with a diameter at 16 meters and laser projection system (4k) of 24.000 lumens. After we get out of the mine we will have lunch and then we will travel through the Carpathian hills to the Berca Muddy Volcanoes wich is a geological and botanical reservation located in Buzău County. The most spectacular feature is small volcano-shaped structures typically a few metres high caused by the eruption of mud and natural gases. In the mine it is 12 degrees Celsius. Dressed thickly!

Most of the bears in the Sanctuary were rescued from the most miserable and small cages where they were held for “fun”, as tourist attractions. Many were confiscated from restaurants’ terraces, hotels and villas, while some of them were captive near factories, gas stations or a monastery.
