We tailored this tour different from the classic tours, following the experience we had with different groups of tourists who showed a great interest in the connections between the reality of the past and the fantastic stories of the present. We pick you up in the morning and drive one and a half hours to the former capital of Wallachia, city of Curtea de Argeș. Here we stop for coffee . Then we go to the real castle of Dracula - Vlad the Impaler, Poienari Fortress which stand high at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Our professional guide will tell you why prince Vlad the Impaler is associated with the fictional character Dracula. . Our next piece of road is also our destination. The Transfagarasan road, build by Ceausescu, with the help of the army is breathtaking and takes us all the way up to the summit of the mountain where we discover the astonishing glacial lake of Balea. From here we start our long but beautiful drive back home.

Romanian cuisine is a diverse blend of different dishes from several traditions with which it has come into contact, but it also maintains its own character. It has been greatly influenced by Ottoman cuisine, while it also includes influences from the cuisines of other neighbours, such as Germans, Serbs, Bulgarians and Hungarians. Quite different types of dishes are sometimes included under a generic term; for example, the category 'ciorbă' includes a wide range of soups with a characteristic sour taste. These may be meat and vegetable soups, tripe and calf foot soups, or fish soups, all of which are soured by lemon juice, sauerkraut juice, vinegar, or traditional borş. The category 'ţuică' or 'palinca' (traditional plum brandy) is a a strong alcoholic spirit in Romania, it can also be made of pears, apples or apricots.

Bucharest is located in the Southern Romania. It is the country’s biggest city, with 2.2 million inhabitants (2012). It was first documented in 1459 AD and inhabited since 500 BC. Bucharest is the Capital of Romania since 1862 AD. It has an elegant architecture built in the period between the two World Wars, reason for which it used to be called the Little Paris. The legend says that the name Bucuresti (Bucharest) comes from a shepherd who founded the town on the Dambovita river, whose name was Bucur (this means in Romanian happiness). The name Bucharest could also come from the name of the beech forests – Bukovie, other sources link the name of the city with the Albanian name – bukureshti – which means “it is beautiful”.

Vlad III, the Prince of Wallachia, was born sometime between 1428 and 1431, probably in Sighişaora, Transylvania. His patronymic, ‘Dracul’, means Dragon, derived from the membership of his father, Vlad II Dracul, in the Order of the Dragon, an order of chivalry for the defence of Christianity in Eastern Europe against the Ottomans, so the young Vlad became known as Dracula, or “son of Dragon”. The exact date, cause, and location of Vlad’s death is unknown, but is believed to have taken place between October and December 1476, when he disappeared in battle. It is known, however, that his head was taken to Constantinople as a trophy. His daughter Maria was meanwhile brought to the Neapolitan court, whose ruling family was allied with her own family, where she was adopted and eventually married to a Neapolitan nobleman.
