Cozumel is the epitome of tropical paradise and exoticism. Escaping here, the traveler can be sure that he will not find anything of ordinary life here – except almost European level of comfort and safety, of course. Otherwise, the largest Mexican island promises a maximum of resort entertainment on land and at sea. Diving, snorkeling, excursions to local attractions and just beach vacations are offered in assortment.
If you are in Cozumel passing through (or rather, sailing), do not miss the most colorful places – the national parks and the ruins of ancient Mayan buildings. The island's capital, San Miguel de Cozumel, will not impress lovers of antiquity, but will delight you with picturesque multi-colored houses and a colonial church. But the town of San Gervasio preserves the remains of a majestic temple complex dedicated to the deity Ish Chel, the most revered deity on Cozumel. It is also worth visiting the old lighthouse in Punta Sur Park and the preserved structures in San Gervasio.
The Chankanaab Park stands out among the protected areas for its diversity of flora and fauna, including endemic ones. It is home to rare passerine birds, amazingly beautiful hummingbirds, poorly studied rodents, and the small Kosumelian raccoon compared to its mainland counterparts. If you are lucky, some of them will be glimpsed in the field of view or in the camera lens. But about the sea creatures there can be no doubt – it is impossible not to meet them. Cozumel – one of the largest centers of diving and snorkeling in Mexico, where the conditions have been created for both experienced divers and beginners. However, if you are not ready to dive, and you want to observe the colorful inhabitants of coral reefs, there is a way out – go on a boat trip with a transparent bottom.
Tourists also enthusiastically visit the local tequila factory and pearl farm, which are probably the most suitable places to find souvenirs.
