The third part of our journey takes us to the National park in the mountains where besides the stunning mountain views we will observe the sad ruins of the Soviet time resorts that witnessed one of the worst of natural disasters that happened in this area in July of 1963 that took many human lives and destroyed one of the wonders of this mountains. We will speak about the beauty and the danger of this place in the historical perspective.

The Charyn canyon is a breathtaking place in the Tian-Shan mountain branches, which origin dates back to the Neogene period. The unique monument of nature, which is often compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States, is located 200 kilometers from the city of Almaty. The landscape of the area is systematically changing, thanks to which the territory of the canyon was chosen by many representatives of flora and fauna, including individuals listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. The most prominent and memorable places of the great gorge are the Valley of Castles, the Ash and Turang Groves, the Charyn River. Altyn-Emel National Park is famous primarily for its unique natural sites, for which thousands of tourists from all over the world come here. First of all, these are the Singing Dune and the chalk mountains of Aktau - the most famous natural monuments, which are original symbols of the Altyn-Emel Park. The singing dune was formed as a result of geological changes in the Semirechye region. About 200 thousand years ago, part of the Ulken Kalkan (Big Kalkan) volcano shifted, forming the mountains known as Kishi Kalkan (Little Kalkan). The sands that lay at the foot of the volcano were drawn into this new corridor, like a wind tunnel, by winds blowing from the southeast to the west-northwest, forming huge dunes about 10-12 thousand years ago. The Big and Small Kalkan mountains surround the Singing Dune, thereby preserving its unchanged shape.

Our excursions are interesting. We have several excursions where you will visit Tien Shan mountains and Tien Shan forest. During this excursion you will see beautiful Tien Shan mountains, you will go to waterfalls and breathe fresh mountain air in forest. It is enough to breathe 15 minutes and in your organism add vitamin C.

Take a guided climb in the mountains around Almaty. Depending on your needs and ability level we can choose you an easy climb or more challenging adventure. First day is an approach day. Depending on your objective we’ll head to the mountains to spend night in tent or in cozy dormitory of Tuyuk-Su alpine camp. In the morning of the second day we will wake up early to go even higher and do some climbing either it’s easy scrambling to the nearest peak, or more challenging route to the one above 4000m.

First, we will visit Big Almaty Lake, which is about a 1.5-hour drive from Almaty City. On the way to the lake, you will observe the beautiful mountains, crowded pine trees, and landscape. Upon arriving at The Big Almaty Lake, you will wonder how it was formed as a Big Lake on the top of the mountain hundreds of years ago. Big Almaty Lake is a natural alpine reservoir. It is located in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, 15 km south of the center of Almaty in Kazakhstan. The lake is 2511 meters above sea level. During the exploration of the lake, everyone would easily notice the color of the lake change according to the intensity of sunlight from light blue to heavy dark. Next, our journey takes us to the Alma-Arasan Gorage. You will see a river that comes from the spring on the top of the mountain and be astonished by its pureness. We will hike along the river for around 1km. Then, we will discover the Ayusay Gurge. Finally, we are going to First President Park.
