Pompeii and Herculaneum are the largest towns of the five buried by the Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD, and they are also the most fully excavated, although they were buried by the same eruption, Pompeii was covered mainly by ash, and Herculaneum by mud and lava. Pick-up from your accommodation or closest meeting point in Sorrento and transfer to Pompeii. Enjoy a 2 hours guided visit in the excavations with an expert and authorized local guide: discover the life of the Ancient Romans see the main public monuments, the Forum and some of the houses of the Pompeii ruins. just to give you an idea i'll list you some details of one type of tour. I do usually suggest to my clients to start the tour quite early. . . by 8am, it'll be the best way to avoid the rush hours traffic in Naples. In approx. 1 hour we'll reach Sorrento, where obviously you'll have the chance of visiting the ancient centre town. After Sorrento, we'll time to go finally along the breathtaking Amalfi coast. . . several stops on the way , if you desire, for taking amazing pictures and even there time to visit the centre town (where big buses will not be allowed to go to) and time for lunch too, of course. After the visit of the coast will be then time to reach the Ancient Pompei, since the archeological area is massive i'd suggest to stop for approx. 2 hours. . . overthere, if you desire I could arrange avery good professional local tour guide for a Private Tour into the ruins, otherwise you could explore by yourself too. Starting from Sorrento towards Meta, we will cross some small towns on the Sorrento peninsula, Sant’Agnello and Piano di Sorrento. Once in Meta, we will encounter the first roughness of the day: a 5 km climb at 4-5% slope that will lead us to the brow of the Teresinella towards the beginning of State Road 163 in the direction of Amalfi. From here we will dive, among dozens and dozens of curves, on the Amalfi coast, crossing the famous towns of Positano and Praiano, until we reach the Cathedral of Amalfi. During the journey we will all face ups and downs, each of 2-3 km with slopes between 4 and 5%, and we will travel for 20 km along the coast overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. Once in Amalfi, we will make a brief stop in the coastal town between the traditional alleys and the majestic Cathedral of Sant’Andrea. After the stop we will return to Sorrento retracing the same route as the first leg. Our Bike Tour will end in Sorrento after about 60 km.
