The area that separates Lecce from the sea proves the beauty of Salento’s landscape and still preserves the traces of the important role that this area played in the history. Riding out from Lecce towards the southeast through secondary roads, we will reach the fortified village of Acaya, a Messapic site where you will admire the majestic medieval castle, the walls of the village and its ancient city plan, still preserved. Then we will move towards the WWF natural park “Le Cesine”, which hides many beautiful plants and water birds. So we will refresh with a nice swim in Torre Specchia and we will cycle back to Lecce crossing a landscape full of olive trees and small villages

The visit starts from Santa Croce church, jewel of Lecce's Baroque, and continues Sant'Oronzo Square, where you can see the Old Tawn Hall "Sedile", the Roman Column and Amphiteatre, important remains of Lecce's glorous Roman heritage. Walking through Corso Vittorio Emanuele street, you will see historical buildings of the 16th, 17th and 18h century and Sant'Irene church. Then u will visit Duomo square, with the Archbishop's Residence, the Seminary, the Bell Tower and the Cathedral. The tour will take you to the underground Jewish Museum, situated in the core of the jewish area, and in particular on the remains of the Sinagogue, with its mikveh and mezuzah. Here in the cellar of the museum is the start of a journey into Medieval Lecce, a journey into what is still even today largely unexplored.

We will go around the old town of Lecce for about 2hrs. I'll show you the most important Baroque and Roman monuments and I'll take you to discover some hidden corners of the town. Gallipoli and its inland still retain traces of the wealth that the lamp oil trade generated for centuries. First stop is at Alezio for a tasting in a cheese farm, then we go on to Tuglie for the amazing Radio Museum (all the items, including telegraphs, are still in working order!) or for the Museum of Rural Life. Heading back toward the coast, in the Porto Selvaggio Natural Reserve we have a picnic lunch (not included) in the shade of the pine forest and, for those who feel like it, a refreshing swim in the cool spring waters. On the way back to Gallipoli we stop in Santa Caterina to taste one of the best ice cream of the region (they’re specialized in “salty pistacchios”, “almond and figs” and “chocolate cream”).
