The beach of Preveli, also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix, is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotikos Gorge, where the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) flows. It is certainly the most famous beach in South Crete, accepting thousands of visitors every summer. During the ‘60s and ‘70s, it was a favorite destination for the hippies. On the banks of the Grand River there is a large colony of Theophrastus palm trees, which give the region a sense of a tropical landscape. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon. The bus will stop at a parking lot, the closest to the beach, where there is a path descending down to the beach. The parking is located near towering vertical cliffs, where you can take some fantastic photos. To reach the beach walk the footpath (app. 300 stairs) that takes about 15 minutes. During your time in the bus, our guide will tell you many things about the history and culture of East Crete and more specifically about the area of Lasithi. When you reach Agios Nikolaos our experienced guide will show you all the places in the town center where you can shop and enjoy your coffee and lunch. The main shopping thoroughfare of the resort is October 28 Street, where you can find shops of very different specializations. Mount Karfi is located at Lassithi plateau, about 70km west of Heraklion. Lassithi is known for the picturesque windmills. In the 1950s and 1960s the plateau was one of Europe's first wind farms. There were about 10-13 thousand windmills that pumped the underground water, with which the local farmers were watering their crops. Moreover, the area is known as the birth place of Zeus, the King of the gods, according to the Greek mythology.

This tour will take you from the heights of the rocky Lassithi plateau to the traditional villages tucked away off the beaten path. One of the most popular places for adventure in Crete is the gorge of Samaria. Located in a national park and a Global Biosphere Reserve, this 13 km hike is among the best things to do in Crete. The trail is open from May to October and can take from 4 to 7 hours to complete. The hike takes you from the Omalos Plateau to the southern coast of the island. On the way there, you may be able to catch a view of the kri-kri, the wild goat of Crete. It roams freely on the high walls of Samaria.
