This former high school built by the French had been from 1975 to 1979 the prison that was the most terrifying of the Khmer Rouge period. Called “S-21” by the Khmer Rouge, it was a torture center, where 15,000 people were tortured then sent to the extermination camp, Choeung Ek, to be killed. The prison guards were between 10 and 15 years old. They were indoctrinated by the seniors of Angkar, and became crueler than the adults. We recommend this tour for people 16 years and over, due to the confronting nature of the Genocide Museum. Adults should use their discretion on the ability of their children to deal with this experience.

Oudong was founded by King Srei Soryapor in 1601, after the abandonment of Longvek. Under the reign of King Ang Duong (1841–1850), he constructed canals, terraces, and bridges and erected hundreds of pagodas in this region. From 1618 until 1866 it was formally called Oudong Meanchey, home to a succession of kings deposed from the former capital of Longvek by the invading Thais. In 1866, it was abandoned by King Norodom, taking his royal court along with him to the current capital, Phnom Penh.

In the afternoon, we will visit to Choeung Ek Killing Center and Tourl Sleng Prison where between 1975 and 1978 about 17,000 men, women, children and infants detained and tortured at S-21 were transported for the extermination. At the last spot, you go to Central Market is a large market in Phnom Penh. Day 2. After having breakfast, we will move to Takeo Province. The first spot is Chiso Temple known as an ancient Khmer temple located on top of the hill. After that, we go to Neang Kmao Temple that constructed of sandstone and brick in the style of Koh Ker. Genocide Museum (S-21 )served as the central hub of a vast prison system throughout the country and was used throughout the period as a secret facility for the detention, interrogation, torture and extermination of those deemed “political enemies” of the regime. Due to a policy of guilt-by-association, at times whole families were detained at the center. Very few inmates were released out of the prison during the years 1975 and 1979. Only 12 former inmates survived the opening of S-21 when Phnom Penh was liberated. Four of them were children. Killing Field between 1975 and 1979 by the Khmer Rouge in perpetrating the Cambodian genocide. Situated about 17 kilometres (11 mi) south of the city centre, it was attached to the Tuol Sleng detention centre. The bodies of 8,895 victims were exhumed from the site after the fall of the Rouge, who would have been executed there—typically with pickaxes to conserve bullets—before being buried in mass graves.
