For years Albania was a closed society, ruled by the iron fist of Communism, but since the end of the Cold War it has been showing curious travellers its many charms, The location of Albania between some of Europe’s most important empires has left them well endowed with a wealth of attractions from the Greek, Roman and Ottoman eras. The region is home to a wealth of old Turkish architecture which sits side by side with elaborately decorated Orthodox churches and from more recent times the civic buildings of Communist era, as well as impressive Roman ruins and well preserved historic towns. Karavasta Lagoon is the largest lagoon in Albania and one of the largest in the Mediterranean Sea. Walk through the natural park and see its rich biodiversity in flora and fauna. Take a boat trip through the canals of the lagoon to experience its beauty from inside, see the birds and the famous dalmatian Pelican.

The day will go fast visiting Pogradec, Monastery of Saint Naum, Ohrid, and returning to Korca. Korca day is full of visits and plenty to learn about this small, nice town, considered to be the capital of culture and town of serenades.

The ancient city of Berat known with the nickname “City of a Thousand Windows”, the survivor of history, the bearer of a rich cultural Illyrian, Greek, Romanian, Byzantine, Slavic, Turkish heritage mix, the owner of an architectural treasure is one of the greatest touristic attractions in South Albania. Located on the Osum River, surrounded by mountains and hills including Tomorri mountain that was declared national park speaks amazing about the picturesque views that Berat city has to offer. Ceramic finds from the 7th century BCE attest to a settlement of the rocky hill of Berat by the Illyrians. Berat has been identified with the ancient Antipatrea. The name Berat has been derived through Albanian sound changes from the old Slavonic language Belgrad meaning “White cite". The island where the Monastery is located is connected to the land through a very picturesque and unique wooden bridge 270 m long, where we will walk across the Zvërneci lagoon with the morning sun. The monastery was built during the 13 century and is dedicated to Mary. During communism time was used for military purposes, hence its beautiful frescos are deteriorated and in need of immediate restoration. After we will head towards Vlora, where we will visit the Kanina fortress with a magnificent view of Vlora bay. Then will visit the old heart of Vlora town and explain its history.

Tirana is one of the most interesting cities in the Balkan Peninsula thanks to its fascinating history. The town was nominated capital of Albania only in 1920, and, before that year, it was nothing more than a large hamlet. From 1944 to 1990, Tirana (and the rest of Albania) suffered a period of isolation during the Communist regime. Still today, traces of this historical period can be found in different areas of Tirana. We will also use cable car to enjoy the view of the whole city from an altitude of over 1000 meters above sea level on Dajti Mountain.
