Durres city lies on the Adriatic coast and is main commercial port of Albania. Durres, Albania's second largest city was known formerly as Durrahium and is one of the oldest towns in the country. Nowadays, after Albania's opening to democracy, it is becoming a major hub for tourism and trade in the Western Balkans. 

It will be a tour of approximately 10 hours including the driving times. We'll first get to Apollonia to visit the ruins and the beautiful Monastery with the elegant archaeological museum next to it. Then we'll head to Berat. First a lunch break in the fortress and then visits of the Fortress and some of the main attractions in it.  We'll head down to the lower part of  the town in the end of the day to get a nice feeling of the two historical and traditional neighbourhoods around the shores of the river.  Drive back to Tirana through a unusual and non touristy interesting way with many hills, plenty of agriculture activities and a lot of beautiful scenery.

Berat is a museum city in Albania. In 2008 it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as it is a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town. It is one of the country's most beautiful towns, and is known as the "town of a thousand windows". The beginnings of Berat or the White City" occurred around the 6th century BCE. Over the ages Berat has been invaded and controlled by ancient Greeks, the Byzantine Empire, the Roman Empire, Slavs, Bulgarians, and the Ottoman Empire which all have had a cultural influence on it. This city is not only impressed by the architecture but also by the warm and simple local life. Although one of the main touristic city destinations in Albania, Berat is never too inundated with visitors which gives you the chance to run into locals, should they be young students in coffee shops or old ladies knitting yarns, in their front yards. Berat’s a beautiful place to look at but perhaps its most engaging feature is its authenticity.

Start the tour from Clock Tower at Skanderbeg Square, National Museum (the huge mosaic on front represents the Albanian history development and the stages of this development are presented on respective pavilions). Departure from the beautiful city of Berat is at 9:00 AM. Return to Berat at 5:30 PM. This is a full day trip that includes 2-3 hours of hiking in nature, opportunities to enjoy traditional food and explore nature. Places to visit: Bogova Waterfall, Osumi Canyons After about 50 minutes of travel we stop is in the lush green village of Bogova from where we start the hike to Bogova Waterfall. The distance from Bogova village to the Waterfall is 2.5 km Walking on almost flat terrain. The Bogova Waterfall is a natural wonder, the clean and cold water creates a natural pool which for the brave who want to challenge its cold water stands there, tempting us to swim and cool off on hot summer days.We leave for the village of Bogova to continue the journey by car to the city of Çorovodë. After eating a delicious lunch with local organic products we continue our journey to explore the beauties of the stunning Osumi Canyon,depends the season, we can see it from above, walk inside, swim etc.

Gjirokastra is known as “The Stone City”, part of UNESCO World heritage. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town is famous for being a well-preserved Ottoman style town, with its fortress overlooking the entire city, the old houses lean against the slopes of the hills with their beautiful old wooden facades.
